Hibbing is a small Minnesota town with a population just over 17,000 residents. It is located on the Mesabi Iron Range, and is home to one of the only largest open-pit iron mines in the world. The city was founded in 1893 by Frank Hibbing, and later named after him. Many notable people have came from the small town, including singer and rock legend Bob Dylan, Greyhound founder Carl Wickman, and NBA superstar Kevin McHale. The city has cold winters and hot summers, just as other Minnesota towns. Winters in the city can be quite harsh, with temperatures falling below freezing many days of the year. Hibbing has one airport, Range Regional Airport. Duluth is the nearest large town to Hibbing and is located 17 miles away.
