I had a great, first-time experience with Black and White. The staff was courteous and efficient. I also loved the car I was given. The price was also very competitive. I will definitely use Black and White again in 5 months when I return to LA.
the car was great, but the charging plugs for my phone were disabled, not a good thing getting around LA when your phone is going dead from a long trip on a plane
I never received a confirmation email about how to pic up the car so I thought that my reservation hadn't gone through. That was very confusing. We also had to wait about 25 minutes to be picked up curbside which I thought was a really long time. Other than that the service was great.
Black and White Rental office staff needs to greatly improve in their customer service. They shouldn't make a customer feel like a potential criminal. They were going to refuse to allow me to rent a car (even though I had reserved it and paid online) because they couldn't find my name in a national credit database I knew nothing about. Their communication was bad and they were not helpful. Finally, after one rental car broke down, they were going to overcharge us $160.

The insurance information I provided before our arrival was not sufficient to meet CA requirements, apparently. Yet, this information was not communicated to me via email beforehand - which resulted in an additional cost of $45 (for three days of insurance) - which is about 50% more money than we anticipated being charged. And the person we were working with was having difficulty explaining this information - which resulted in a VERY long check-in process. We were very disappointed.
My only complaint was the amount of time it took to be picked up from the airport and taken to the rental car location. I understand that shuttles may not be feasible but perhaps there is a faster way than sending a car only after the renter has called following the bag pick up.

Everything was great except for the pickup from LAX. 40 to 45 minutes is way too long to wait to be picked up. This factor alone would make me reluctant to rent from Black and White again - even though everything else was near perfect.
