The vehicle we received was not what I was told but we had 9 people so I had no choice. The vehicle was dirty and beyond rough, to say the least, but the real issue was it could not make it up the hills without our speed dropping to about 5mph every time. There is definitely a mechanical issue with it. We found out when we dropped it off and I told them about the issue that they don't give that vehicle out to customers. I wasn't even offered a discount. I won't use them when we return next year.
Have been visiting St Maarten for over 10 years and have always used Empress Car Rental because of the outstanding service and excellent rates.
I'm not sure what time Empress closes but my flight was 3 hours+ late and when I walked in the door to rent my car, I was greeted by my first name. They stayed out waiting on a few us late arrivals. They also upgraded my car free of charge. I was in out on both pick up and drop off in no time. Definitely would use them again.

Empress was a little more costly than others I have rented from in St. Maarten, but the overall experience was good

Empress Rental is the best rental company on SXM that I have used and I have been coming to this island for 30 years. Their vehicles are in top of the line condition. The staff is friendly and efficient. Their rates are competitive.
Even though the vehichle I reserved was not available at the time specified they did get it ready for the next day. I had to go pick it up and take time out of my vacation to run over there which was not great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Good experience- had a problem with the rear view mirror and it was fixed promptly.
