North Dakota can be considered either the 39th or 40th state to join the United States of America, as it was admitted on the same day as South Dakota. North Dakota officially became a state on November 2, 1889. The capital city is Bismarck, but the largest city is Fargo. North Dakota is bordered by Minnesota, Montana, and South Dakota.
